“Folk Magic” – TheMusic
“Tasmanian Convict Punk” – ABC936
“This is what folk punk is all about” – London Celtic Punks
“Holy. F#cking. Sh!t. This is outstanding” – Jesse Sendajas, Days N Daze.
A raucous combination of folk-punk and cow-punk, The Dead Maggies formed after the death of Maggie Thatcher and burst onto the Tasmanian music scene in April 2013. Since then they’ve garnered national airplay on Triple J and Radio National and been feature album and in the charts of community radio stations including 4ZZZ, Three-D, 2BoB and Edge Radio.
They have undertaken four international tours. They were the first international band hosted by Indonesian Celtic Punks. They have toured Europe in 2014 and 2017, including performances at Outcider and the 70,000 capacity Boomtown Festivals in the UK.
They are the acoustic moment at the punk show, or the raucous band at the folk festival. Over seven years they have cemented themselves as regulars of the Australian festival circuit, including; Falls Festival, Port Fairy, Dark Mofo, The Spiegeltent, National Folk Festival, Psyfari and Illawarra Folk to name a few, plus you’ve probably seen them here at previous Huon Valley Midwinter Festivals.
